urban sketching 3.4.: Hirschgasse

Description

So finally here's the urban sketching pic for last month. This time we went to the "Hirschgasse" in Linz which is a nice road that leads up the Freinberg, with many interesting houses.

It was a pretty sunny day, so I started by doing the pencil drawing (plus fineliner) at the bottom to capture the geometry of the houses and the hard shadows.
Next up was the little woven basket that hung in a tree, looked especially great in the direct strong sunlight - very vibrant colours that I tried to capture with my coloured pencils. Would have worked better if I used smooth paper :P
And finally I drew the balcony on the right, mostly because I just wanted to do one more motive and I found nothing really suitable, so this had to do :P Also coloured pencils again with fineliner.

Well, wasn't my most successful sketching session artwise, but it was fun nontheless with many nice people and great weather :)

Okay, so I have to ask: what is that thing caught in the bush in the balcony drawing? My first assumption was that it was a bicycle wheel, but now I'd say it looks like an over-sized compass? :-? What in the world is it?
